Size follows scanning distance: roughly one tenth of it. A flyer read at 30 cm needs about 3 cm; an A2 poster read at 1.5 m needs about 15 cm; a code read from 5 m needs 50 cm. Keep it above waist height, out of the fold on a folded flyer, and away from a background photo — a plain area around the code is worth more than any styling.

Always add a short call to action next to the code saying what happens when you scan. "Scan me" alone converts poorly; "Scan for the programme" tells people why. And check the printed proof, not just the PDF.

Static or dynamic?

Dynamic is recommended for anything printed in volume or displayed for months. A campaign URL that changes mid-run turns every static poster into a dead end, while a dynamic code is re-pointed in seconds and reports scans.
